Junior Golf Magazine
By Katherine Frattarola

We have been looking forward to this week all year. Golf legends from the PGA TOUR Champions league; amateur players, including several of our employees and top business partners; and 81 of the most incredible young men and women from The First Tee will converge at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills GolfCourse to participate in The PURE Insurance Championship, Impacting The First Tee. The format of this event, along with the impact it has on these kids makes it one of the most special events in the game of golf.

At this year’s PURE Insurance Championship, the junior golfers—39 girls and 42 boys between the ages of 14 and 18—will compete for the pro-junior title. These players were chosen by a national panel of judges, which included some of our employees, based on playing ability and application of The First Tee’s nine core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.

The First Tee is a youth sports organization whose mission is to grow the game of golf by transforming the experience that kids and families have with the sport. Our partnership with The First Tee is a way for us to integrate into the mentorship process of the junior golfers as they develop their talents and grow as players. We have a deep commitment to these young men and women; they have the potential to grow not only into skilled golfers but also into the next generation of leaders. Throughout the weekend, professional players like Mark O’Meara also enjoy the opportunity to develop longstanding relationships with these promising young players.

This year, we were a little more creative leading into the tournament and challenged the kids to a video scavenger hunt for the chance to win a selection of exciting prizes. There is so much talent among these kids, both on and off the course. Each week, for the past eight weeks, they have shown this talent and their creativity by submitting videos we’ve requested, including their best trick shots, the person who inspires them most and what they’re bringing with them to Pebble Beach. We’ve been sharing them on the tournament’s Instagram, @PUREFirstTee. If you haven’t seen them, I urge you to take a look and get to know the incredible kids competing for this year’s junior title.
